My name is Luke Martin, and I am the man behind Owl Woodworks. While I started this business in 2019, I’ve been woodworking for well over a decade. I began my working life as a cabinetry apprentice part-time in high school before transitioning to building custom kitchens and furniture full time. I did this for a few years until I felt like I was no longer progressing as a woodworker or a person. I then moved on to a more fulfilling job and decided to make woodworking a passion as opposed to a profession.

Home of Owl Woodworks

I started Owl Woodworks in the spring of 2019. I named it Owl Woodworks because at the time, it was a nocturnal hobby of mine. It was something I did in my free time after work, often into the darkest hours of the evening. It is still to this day, something I do at the end of every day to wind down and relax.

I currently work as a bomb disposal technician with the Canadian Army. While I have found the fulfilment and purpose I felt was missing at my first job, it certainly has it’s own downsides. Owl Woodworks has served as a wonderful psychological break from my work. While I am doing my best to keep it this way, it seems that Owl Woodworks is determined to turn into a thriving and successful business whether I like it or not.

Me, 2018

Me, looking serious.

I believe the kitchen is the heart of the household. Some of my fondest memories as a child are in the kitchen. Whether I was cooking with my family, or waiting for my mom to turn her back so I could steal spoonfuls of cookie dough or the slices of cheese she was getting ready for burgers. These memories are why I build tools for your kitchen. I want to produce something meaningful that you will enjoy everyday with your loved ones.

Not only that, but we as a species spend a tremendous amount of time in the kitchen. The reason this matters is because I want to sell something of value. I know my work isn’t the cheapest, and because of that I want to make sure I make things that people get there money’s worth out of. This is why my focus is cutting boards, because people use their cutting boards everyday.

Long story short, cutting boards are very meaningful to me, and I want them to mean something to you too.
